AI text-to-speech technology has moved fast. Audiobook platforms are flooded with thousands of titles narrated by digital voices. From a production standpoint, it makes sense: it is fast, incredibly cheap, and allows backlists of indie books to be converted to audio overnight.
But from a listener’s perspective? It completely ruins a good book.

- Soul-less Storytelling: Writing a book takes human heart and vulnerability. Stripping away the human voice to save a few pennies feels like a disservice to the author’s hard work.
Protecting the Art of the Audiobook
Audiobooks are an investment of both your money and your hours of attention. When you pay premium prices for a digital file, you expect a premium experience.
Technology is great for automation, scheduling, or data crunching. But when it comes to art, storytelling, and emotional connection, the human voice wins every single time.
Next time you go to buy a book for your weekend wind-down, make sure to listen to the audio sample first. Don’t let an AI voice ruin your next great read.
